Bandits kill policeman, abduct three in Kaduna
Bandits have invaded Ungwan-Waziri, Karji in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing a police Inspector and abducting three persons, including two female students of the Kaduna State University.
The female students were living off campus.
The incident occurred on Wednesday around 11pm.
It was learnt that the bandits entered the community late in the night and hid in mango trees unknown to members of the community.
A source, who crave anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the matter, gave the name slain Inspector as John Bello.
According to him, the police officer just came back from work and was about eating his dinner when the bandits attacked the community.
The source stated, “He came back and his wife served him food, but he received a phone call and told the wife that he was coming back to eat the food.
“He took his motorcycle only to be shot very close to his house by gunmen, who were hiding in mango trees not far from his house.
“Around 11pm on Wednesday, we received a distress call that gunmen came to our community; a message was passed across that we should put off our generators, which we did, shortly after which we started hearing gunshots.”
The bandits, the source added, proceeded to a compound housing undergraduates from the Kaduna State University and took away two of them.
As of the time of filing this report, the state police command had yet to confirm the attack.
The spokesman for the command, ASP Mohammed Jalige, neither picked our correspondent’s call nor respond to a text message sent to his mobile telephone.
