Next week, President Bola Tinubu is set to reveal wage awards aimed at mitigating the impact of the petrol subsidy removal on workers.
The labor movement, represented by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), has been advocating for these wage awards before negotiations on a new minimum wage next year.
The President of TUC, Comrade Festus Osifo, shared this information during an interview on ChannelsTelevision’s “Politics Today” program.
TUC had given the federal government a two-week ultimatum to address their demands, warning of possible industrial action if not met.Osifo mentioned that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, had discussed the matter with President Tinubu and the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun.
Lalong conveyed that wage issues had been reviewed but required further refinement before President Tinubu could make an official announcement.In response, TUC insisted on a shorter timeline and, after further discussions, it was agreed that President Tinubu would make the announcement regarding wage awards next week.
