West Ham complete signing of striker Niclas Füllkrug

Published on

Borussia Dortmund lost Niclas Füllkrug after just one season at Signal Iduna Park. Füllkrug, who was acquired from Werder Bremen for €17 million last summer, has since joined West Ham United. Serhou Guirassy, a striker for Stuttgart, joined the Black and Yellows earlier this month in a move of €18 million, effectively sparking the rumors. Füllkrug had been linked to Stuttgart, AC Milan, and Atletico Madrid; nevertheless, West Ham emerged victorious in the competition and secured the forward’s services for a fee of €27 million plus additional €5 million.

Füllkrug has agreed to a deal that runs through 2027 with a one-year option. Füllkrug was viewed by West Ham as a substitute for Jhon Durán of Aston Villa. In order to sign the Colombian forward, the Hammers and Villa had been in talks, but the discussions broke down. In light of that, West Ham turned their attention to Füllkrug. Tim Steidten, the German technical director of West Ham, was familiar with Füllkrug’s play and attempted to sign him when he was still with Werder Bremen.

In the open, Dortmund had appeared hesitant to let Füllkrug go and had conveyed to the media that the forward was still a vital member of the team. But a lot of stuff was just posturing. Dortmund had four center-forwards under contract when they signed Guirassy. In addition to Guirassy and Füllkrug, the Black and Yellows still have contracts with Sébastien Haller and Youssoufa Moukoko. In fact, it appeared that Dortmund would have to let go of at least one attacker this summer in order to bolster other positions in the team. After a strong performance at the European Championships, Füllkrug was the most marketable asset. And Dortmund has already turned a big profit on the forward for €27m + €5m. Füllkrug is going to be among One if tye most expensive signings in West Ham History
