Lagos State Assembly crisis: New Moves to Return Obasa Starts
There is no doubt that the leadership crisis hitting the Lagos Assembly is as a result of the removal of Obasa as the state speaker. Regardless, yesterday being the 2nd of March, 2025 took a new turn as Kachi Tv new moves to return Obasa as Speaker of the house.
On the 13th of January, 2025, the assembly 3 32 law makers engineered the removal of Obasa, former clerk of the house, and elected Mrs Mojisola Meranda as the substantive speaker.
It was also noted that the members of the Governance Advisory Council, GAC, were also asked to rein in the anti-Obasa lawmakers. This is because the President has set up a higher chamber committee of the party led by Bisi Akande and members including Aremo Olusegun Osoba, and former APC National Vice Chairman, South-west, Pius Akinyelure and others to resolve the crisis. Moving further, the president has reached out to members of GAC who have loyalists or children in the Assembly to insist they work for Obasa’s return as Speaker.

Sources reaching out to us at Kachi Tv, noted that the committee led by Bisi Akande will cease to exist.
“For those who do not have children in the Assembly but have other political loyalists in the State Executive Council, they have been mandated to ensure Obasa is returned.
“Obasa, on the other hand, has also been reaching out to lawmaker opposed to him in an attempt to gain their support.”

Court Involvement in Deciding Obasa and Meranda’s Fate
A fresh source also noted that if the steps to rein Obasa fails, the party leaders and the Presidency will have no option that to leave the court to resolve the crisis surrounding the Lagos State Assembly. The embattled former Speaker had dragged Meranda, the Assembly and 36 lawmakers to court challenging his ‘unlawful’ removal.
Justice Yetunde Rukayat Pinheiro of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, last Friday, adjourned the hearing of all pending applications in the lawsuit filed by Obasa, to March 7.
On this note, all Assembly staffs are instructed to work from home till further notice to prevent total breakdown of law and order in the state.
The Chairman of the Governance Advisory Council, GAC, has cleared the air that the body is not responsible for Obasa’s removal. He noted that the lawmakers carried out their act without consulting the council.
WHATS ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS ? SHOULD OBASA RETURN OR ALLOW MERANADA CONTINUE HER RULE AS THE NEW SPEAKER ?
