President Bola Tinubu addressed the Nigerian Bar Association’s annual conference in Abuja, expressing concern about Nigeria’s reliance on external debt servicing, which consumes 90% of its scarce revenue.
He emphasized that this approach is unsustainable and detrimental to the country’s development.Tinubu stressed the need for cooperation between Nigeria’s private sector leaders and the government to eliminate poverty and achieve prosperity.
He questioned the wisdom of allocating such a significant portion of revenue to debt servicing and called for difficult but necessary reforms to put Nigeria on a growth trajectory.
The theme of the conference, “Getting it Right: Charting the Course for Nigeria’s Nation-Building,” underscored the importance of making tough decisions to ensure the nation’s progress, even though reforms might bring initial challenges.
Tinubu also reaffirmed his commitment to addressing remuneration issues for judicial officers and legal practitioners, highlighting the significance of competitive salaries and benefits for these professionals in achieving true justice reform in Nigeria.
